PORT WASHINGTON -- A West Bend man is missing after a kayaking trip in Lake Michigan.
Marcus Beilman, 27, was kayaking with his brother Kevin at approximately 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, when the choppy waters caused their kayaks to overturn.
Kevin, 24, said he lost sight of his older brother and his kayak.
Kevin was able to swim back to shore and was taken to the hospital. He was suffering from exposure to the cold water, but he is expected to be OK.
The Coast Guard, the Port Washington Fire Department and the DNR began searching Wednesday evening and continued their search until 9 p.m. They resumed Thursday morning, but have since suspended the search.
“The decision to suspend is based on a multitude of factors from the case," said Lt. Cmdr. Carolyn Moberley, of Coast Guard Sector Lake Michigan. "It was not an easy decision to make to suspend this case, and we would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family. We gave every effort to this search and maintained a continuous search Wednesday night and throughout the morning with multiple assets and crews.”
