Consumers beware, the latest telephone scam may look like a call from a government agency.

According to Network Health, thieves are pretending to be agents from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services or from the Office of the Inspector General. They are asking residents for personal information like Social Security numbers, and access to bank accounts.

Network Health warns consumers that if they receive a call from HHS or OIG, do not pick up.

If you receive a call, you are urged to call the HHS OIG Hotline at 800-447-8477 and report it, or email spoof@oig.hhs.gov.
