Report says Madison is the top Wisconsin city for single people

MADISON — Madison was ranked eighth in the top 10 cities that are best for people who are single, according to a report by the personal-finance website WalletHub that was released Tuesday.

The top 10 cities included Atlanta, Denver, San Diego, Portland, Ore., Chicago, Los Angeles, Madison, Seattle and Portland, Maine.

The 10 worst cities included Hialeah, Fla.; Shreveport, La,; Winston-Salem, N.C.; Yonkers, N.Y.; Columbia, Md.; South Burlington, Vt.; Brownsville, Texas; Glendale, Calif.; Pembroke Pines, Fla. and Pearl City, Hawaii.

The study looked at 35 indicators in 182 cities for dating-friendliness that related to economic, recreational and dating opportunities.

Economic opportunities included the costs of restaurants, drinks, movies, taxis and more. Fun and recreational opportunities included the number of restaurants, parks, shopping centers and more. Dating opportunities included the number of single people in the city, online dating opportunities and more.

Milwaukee ranked 56th in the report.

Forty-five percent of U.S. adults are single, according to the report. Detroit has the highest number single people with 74% of its population.

The cities with the lowest average restaurant meal cost are El Paso, Texas and Las Cruces, N.M., averaging $25 per meal. Port St. Lucie, Fla. has the lowest average price for a movie ticket, at $6.63 a ticket. Los Angeles has the highest cost for a movie ticket, averaging $15.57.
