A reckless driver struck a Milwaukee Fire Department Medical Unit, as well as a light pole early Tuesday morning.

Police say they observed a black 4-door Ford Escape driving recklessly on N. 27th Street from W. Chambers Street about 2:06 a.m. The driver disregarded a red light at N. 27th and W. Burleigh Street, nearly causing an accident.

After observing the driver disregard the light, police activated their overhead blue and red lights, as well as the audible siren in attempt to conduct a traffic stop.

Police say the driver refused to stop and eventually lost control, causing them to strike a City of Milwaukee Fire Department Medical Unit. After striking the Med Unit, the driver continued west across 27th Street and struck a light pole.

The driver and passenger inside the Ford Escape have been taken into custody, and a firearm was recovered from inside the vehicle.
