Carlin Cook has been charged with embezzling over $37,000 from the Starbucks she worked at in Racine.
Back in June, the Racine Police Department was contacted with concerns that an employee had been stealing from the store.
The Starbucks' regional store manager reported that there were 25 missing deposits between March and May of 2017. Cook was a store manager at the time. She was working on 11 of the 18 days the deposits were supposed to be picked up.
Cook admitted to stealing some of these deposits, but was not sure how many.
She said she needed the money to pay off her $85,000 worth of student loans and credit card debt. Since she would primarily use cash, she has no record of exactly how much she stole.
Cook says she acted alone, even throwing out the deposit bags at her apartment to hide what she was doing from her boyfriend.
She faces a maximum of 10 years in prison, a $25,000 fine, or both.
