Across Racine County, preparations are being made to remember Officer John Hetland, who was killed while trying to stop an armed robbery while off-duty last week.

Family, friends and colleagues went to the A.F. Siebert Chapel on the campus of Carthage College to honor the officer at a visitation service Tuesday.

A member of the Honor Guard will stay with Hetland’s body until he is buried. Visitation services continue Wednesday morning from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The funeral follows immediately at 11 a.m. Services are expected to last 90 minutes before a “Committal Ceremony” takes place outside the chapel before the procession.

Hetland will be buried in a private service at the West Lawn Memorial Park in Mount Pleasant.
