RACINE — A Racine police officer has died following a crash on Highway 20 near 63rd Drive.
Officer Jennifer Diener was taken to the hospital following the crash on Feb. 9; however, she passed away late Saturday.
Jim Palmer with the Wisconsin Professional Police Association said that this death has hit the department especially hard.
"She has a brother in law on the department, and she joined the department at the same time as Officer John Hetland, who you may recall was tragically shot and killed attempting to stop an armed robbery last summer," said Palmer.
Officer Diener served the Racine Police Department for 24 years.
One other death has been reported in the traffic incident that Officer Diener succumbed to. Ten others were injured.
Mayor Cory Mason of Racine shared a statement on Facebook expressing his condolences.
