The Racine Police Department is now investigating a shots fired incident that left two people dead as a murder-suicide.

The shooting occurred around 6:50 a.m. Friday morning in the 2600 block of 19th St. in Racine. Police say the two people deceased, a 30-year-old female and 34-year-old male, were an estranged couple.

The scene is now secure and there is no danger to the public, according to police.

"There were two juveniles in the home unharmed and they are safe," said Sgt. Adam Malacara, public information officer with Racine Police Department.

Malacara said a minor called police from the home to report gunshots.

"This is a very sensitive situation. It’s two families involved missing their loved ones today," said Malacara.

Family members on the scene were devastated. Neighbors in the area did not want to talk on camera but asked the community to pray for the kids.

"I think any normal person would feel for these kids and we do," said Malcara. "We’re all very happy that the kids are safe. We worry about them obviously because now they have to grow up without parents."
