A hit-and-run in Racine County left a 61-year-old man dead. Keith Brown is a well-known member of the local racing community.

He was struck and killed on a dark rural road in the Town of Raymond Monday night. Now his friends are hoping the person who did it comes forward.

"He was a very unique individual and a heck of a mechanic. He could fix anything from a semi tractor-trailer down to your lawn mower," said his longtime friend Ted Dolhun.

Brown spent decades working for Al's Auto Salvage and Sales but he was better known for his work with Schill Racing. He was their crew chief.

"Keith worked for us for like 20 years and he was my crew chief on the race car most of that time and a real good friend," said Al Schill of Schill Racing. "We raced locally like Slinger, Lake Geneva. Local tracks around the area."

Monday night, around 8:45 p.m., the Racine County Sheriff's Office said Brown was hit and killed on 76th Street just north of 7 Mile Road. That is just up the road from the Corner Bar and Grill where Brown had been hanging out with friends.

"He left here and he was driving home and decided, I don't know why, turned around and got stuck," said Schill.

That's when his friends believed he tried to walk back to the bar and was hit. But the driver never stopped. His friends are now hoping someone comes forward to help Brown's family with their loss.

"I would ask they do the right thing. Turn themselves in," said Dolhun.

If you have any information about the hit-and-run you are asked to call the Racine County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau at 262-636-3323.
