The puppy stolen from a West Allis pet store is back home, but police are still looking for the culprit who took the teacup Maltese Casper a few weeks ago.

The owner of Preppy Pups Terri Gellin said a man came in and asked to hold teacup Maltese. That’s when he took off out the door with Casper.

A worker chased the man down the street but he hopped in a car and took off. The worker recognized the thief because he had been in multiple times before.

“He and his girlfriend and had been in before that day. The same day. He came back without the girlfriend and was visiting with the puppy,” said Gellin. “Then he took off.”

Milwaukee Police found Casper Tuesday after someone let him go in an alley. They got him back to the worker who is fostering him. Gellin had worried Casper would be sick because he requires special food and supplements as a puppy. But that is not the case.

“He’s doing great. Whoever had him took excellent care of him. I will say that. He’s fat, he’s in good spirits,” said Gellin.

She said Casper still needs to be checked out by a vet, but if he is ok then he will be available at Preppy Pups. Gellin said though from now on there will be more security in place.
