The Judiciary and Legislation committee recommended the approval of a resolution that would make it tougher for Milwaukee residents to purchase fireworks at Wisconsin stores.

During a Monday meeting, the committee voted 5-0 in favor of the resolution which calls for a change in state law.

The change would require sellers of fireworks to check where buyers live in the state and if possession and use of fireworks are prohibited there.

In Milwaukee County, residents aren’t allowed to sell or distribute fireworks.

The resolution, which is sponsored by Alderman Cavalier Johnson, Alderman Michael J. Murphy and Alderwoman Nikiya Dodd, would also make it tougher to obtain a fireworks distributor license.

The resolution will go before the full Common Council for approval on Tuesday, July 30 at 9:00 a.m. at City Hall.
