"Prescription Take-Back Day"  occurred all across the United States Saturday.

It gives the community a chance to properly dispose of expired and unused medication to reduce the abuse of painkillers and other medications.

More than two-thirds of people who have abused prescription painkillers have got them illegally from a friend or family member.

Unused or expired medicine should never be flushed or poured down the drain. Water reclamation facilities are not designed to remove many of them. In fact, traces of drugs are showing up in rivers and lakes.

The Glendale Police Department is one of many locations with a drop-box for unused medications. Walgreens also installed medication disposal kiosks at pharmacies across the country, including 18 in Wisconsin back in September.
