MILWAUKEE -- Buying furniture is one of the more expensive purchases that many of us will make, but unlike other purchases, if you are not satisfied or change your mind, it may be impossible or difficult to do a return or get all of your money back.

Before buying furniture, here are a few things that you might want to do to avoid buyer’s remorse later.

Do some measuring to be sure that the piece will fit through your doorway and in it’s designated spot. Stick with reputable businesses who have been around for awhile, and check out recent reviews or complaints with consumer agencies like the Better Business Bureau.

Ask questions about the manufacturer, warranties, return policies, terms and conditions for special orders, and delivery dates, and get this information in writing. Also check out the reputation of the manufacturer and the product that you are considering.

If your store goes out of business, you may need to work with the manufacturer directly.

Although it may be tempting to buy something on the spot without checking things out, this can lead to a lot of hassles later. Slow down, think things through, and ask lots of questions.
