MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Police Department says two officers were injured in a crash near 71st and Hampton. Police say a squad car was hit.

Officers were called to the area at around 8:00 p.m. Wednesday. Police say an officer spotted a reckless driver at Capitol and Appleton and attempted to pull the driver over.

Police say that sparked a brief 3-minute chase, which ended when the driver of a white truck smashed into another squad car that was responding for backup.

Police say the driver struck the side of the squad that had two officers in it, causing significant damage to the patrol vehicle, but just minor injuries to the officers and suspect.

"Obviously, you know, that reckless driving is a huge issue in this city and a huge priority for our police department, so when we observe reckless driving, we're going to pursue those cases, and that's exactly what happened here tonight," said Captain David Salazar.

Police say the suspect and the two officers are at the hospital to be checked out. The officers are 22 and 29 years old.
