Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said a plan is in place for Milwaukee police to monitor the Sherman Park neighborhood after a not guilty verdict was issued in the homicide trial of an ex-police officer.

A jury found Dominique Heaggan-Brown not guilty in the shooting death of Sylville Smith, which sparked unrest in the days after in the Sherman Park neighborhood.

The plan is to add extra patrols Wednesday night, with officers circling the neighborhood and talking to children.

Officers have also been seen parked near the tree where Smith’s memorial is located, kindly asking people not to gather in the area.

For the most part, people have peacefully responded to officers’ directions.
