UPDATE 02/03: The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office said the initial closure of I-43 was due to a "high-risk traffic stop."

Though the subject involved in that traffic stop was released after questioning, at the same time, several callers reported what they believed to be a subject picking a gun up off of the freeway.

That gun turned out to be a hand radio. No arrests were made.

FOX POINT -- A police situation closed down the southbound lanes of I-43 at Brown Deer Road Wednesday morning.

Witnesses tell Newsradio 620 WTMJ that deputies with the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office had surrounded an SUV with guns drawn on the highway.

The highway was shut down at about 11:25 a.m. and reopened at 12:25 p.m.

Cars were being directed off the highway at Brown Deer Road and were allowed back on at Good Hope Road. Traffic was backed up to at least Port Washington Road.

No word yet on what the sheriff's office was investigating.
