A former MSOE student has been charged for possessing a gun on school grounds.

Milwaukee police received an anonymous tip that a student had a gun in a dorm room on Milwaukee School of Engineering's campus. On Saturday, police responded to said dorm room and located the person who matched the description given by the anonymous texter.

Once in the dorm, police asked the man, Rashad Muhammad, 18, if he had a gun in the room. Muhammad told police he did have a gun and that it was located on his waist. Police then recovered a Cobra .380 handgun from him.

Muhammad told police found the gun and that he knew he could not have it on MSOE's campus. He also said he was enrolled at MSOE, but stopped going earlier in December.

He has been charged with one count of possession of a firearm on grounds of a school for which he faces fines up to $10,000 and/or up to three years and six months in prison.
