Police: Passenger in suspected stolen vehicle hit by squad car during chase

A 30-year-old man is in critical condition after police said he was hit by a squad car during a pursuit Thursday morning.

Milwaukee police said it happened just after 6:30 a.m. Thursday in the 3000 block of West North avenue. Police officers were attempting to conduct a traffic stop on a suspected stolen vehicle when the driver refused to pull over and led officers on a brief chase.

Police said the suspect vehicle crashed into another car in the 3000 block of West Fond Du Lac Avenue, at which time the passenger in the suspect vehicle was ejected and hit by a squad car. The driver of the vehicle fled on foot and was apprehended.

The man who was hit by a squad car was taken to an area hospital and is in critical condition.

The suspect, a 35-year-old Milwaukee man, was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

The officer involved in the incident has been placed on administrative duty, per department procedure.

The incident remains under investigation. The West Allis Police Department will be the lead law enforcement agency in the investigation.
