MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police officers worked together to help rescue a child from the Menomonee River near a pedestrian bridge.

The child’s father flagged down an on-duty bike officer and said that his 6-year-old son with autism was missing.

Officer Lopez and Officer Michael Maldonado began their search around the area immediately, according to police.

Police said it was minutes later when a woman yelled to officers that the child was in the river.

The 6-year-old was standing in the water when Detective Alexander Ayala and Officer Jose Acevedo, who were off-duty, ran to the river and rescued the boy.

No medical attention was needed.
