Lots of you may be getting ready to take the boat out for the first time this Memorial Day Weekend.  Fittingly, it's National Safe Boating Week.  The weather can quickly shift from a perfect boating weather day to dangerous conditions, almost instantly. It’s very important to make proper preparations and have a safety plan.  When threatening weather is a possibility, the U.S. Coast Guard recommends not only to have a plan in place, but tell your boating plans to others who are still on shore.

A life jacket for every person on board is one of the most important rules on the water.  In 2015, 85 percent of drowning victims on the water weren't wearing life jackets, which is one reasons the Coast Guard will be conducting vessel safety checks this weekend.

With hit and miss thunderstorms possible through the holiday weekend, it's very important for you to have a weather radio on board when heading out on the water.  Also, you can get Marine warnings with the StormTeam4 Storm Shield mobile app.
