MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that happened in the early hours of Wednesday morning near 100th and Fiebrantz Avenue.
The shooting happened in the 4000 block of N. 100th street at around 2:15 a.m.
The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner says a 31-year-old man was killed. An autopsy is scheduled for later today.
Police aren't releasing a lot of information right now, as the investigation is ongoing but Inspector Jutiki Jackson works in this district and says this is abnormal.
"This is a very strong neighborhood," Jackson said. "Very good neighborhood. Lot of respectable community members and tight knit families. Tight knit community associations to make sure they stay safe. Typically don't have problems in this area."
"It was a shock to see this because this doesn't happen in this neighborhood," Elaine Green said.
Green lives across the street from the crime scene. She's been here for nine years and says she's never seen more than a traffic stop.
"It's very quiet," Green said. "We know a lot of neighbors. People that walk by all the time, we say hi to them. It's a very quiet, nice place to live."
The area is on the west side of Milwaukee, surrounded by the Wauwatosa border. Green says the people who live in the home across the street just moved in recently.
"Very quiet," Green said. "A nice family used to live there. It was recently sold. It sat vacant all summer long. These people just moved in some time in September. They just moved in so this is quite a shock."
She says nothing was abnormal about the family in the home. In the few interactions she had, she says they were quiet. However, she says one thing stuck out.
"Nice, newer vehicles," Green said. "Expensive vehicles. Everybody is working class here. Don't see a lot of brand new Escalades, Chargers, Challengers. Nicer, newer cars. It was different. Just different."
