OAK CREEK -- The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) has entered its final phase of the South 27th Street project.

Construction on the project started in spring of 2015, and some local business owners said they've lost patience with the project.

“The street was closed and I lost a lot of customers," Diosa Ratzmann said.

Ratzmann worked in the area near South 27th and College as a hairstylist for 10 years. She said the lengthy construction project forced her to close shop and open a salon further down the road.

“I was depressed. Because everybody has bills to pay," Ratzmann said. “These people don’t think about small businesses. This is unfair."

According to WisDOT, the project is in its final phase only minor construction is left. Crews will continue to install permanent signals and signage while finalizing restoration work.

The project is expected to be finished by the beginning of the new year.
