Numerous school buses at Thomas Bus Company engulfed in flames, Burlington schools closed on Feb. 2

TOWN OF BURLINGTON — Numerous buses at Thomas Bus Company in Burlington were engulfed in a fire early Tuesday, officials said.

The Racine County Sheriff's Office said a deputy noticed heavy smoke coming from the Thomas Bus Company property on Bushnell Road just before 4 a.m. The business was closed at the time and no employees were inside.

According to officials from the Burlington Fire Department, six buses were impacted and one storage area collapsed due to the fire. Officials said the fire is believed to have been electrical. No criminal activity was suspected.

Bushnell Road (Highway 142) was closed between McCanna Parkway round-a-bout and the Burlington Bypass. It reopened just before 8:30 a.m.

The Burlington Area School District canceled classes today due to the fire, as buses will not be able to transport students.

No injuries were reported.
