Sturgeon season just opened last week, and a record already has been broken.

The longest sturgeon ever speared and observed by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources was caught Saturday morning at Lake Winnebago.

Jonathan Eiden reeled in the 85.5-inch and 171-pound fish that previously was tagged in 2012.

Eiden reportedly already has a place in his home ready to mount the record-breaking fish.

The DNR also says it has reached 57.9 percent of its female sturgeon cap, and it expects the Upriver Lakes season to close by as early as Thursday.
