MILWAUKEE- The fundraising efforts of a local doctor are paying off in a big way for Children’s Hospital.

In response to the Rocks for a Reason campaign, started by Dr. David Margolis, Nordstrom’s is gifting the hospital a $50,000 donation.

After seeing a rock in a leather pouch selling for $85 on Nordstrom’s website, Dr. Margolis had his own idea; you send an $85 donation to Children’s Hospital, and he will send you a handpicked rock from the shores of Lake Michigan.

“I figured if people were willing to pay $85 for a rock that didn’t do anything, there must be some people out there who would be willing to pay $85 for a rock that would help bring joy to kids in the hospital,” said Dr. Margolis.

It turns out, people really like rocks from Lake Michigan. As of Monday the hospital had received over 450 gifts from 39 states, totaling about $50,000. With the added $50,000 from Nordstrom, Margolis’s campaign helped raise about $100,000 for the hospital in just two weeks.

“I have been blown away by the support we have received. And now this generous gift from Nordstrom. It’s heartwarming how many people are reaching out to help us help kids! We are going to need more rocks.”

You can still donate to the campaign through December 31st.
