OZAUKEE COUNTY — A 19-year-old man turned himself in Monday for causing a deadly crash in July.
Adam Gertz, 19, turned himself in to police Monday after he allegedly caused a crash on July 3. Court records show Gertz failed to stop at a stop sign and struck another vehicle.
Glenn Lewis, who was the driver of the other vehicle was trapped in his car after the crash and eventually died at the hospital from his injuries.
Following the crash, police questioned Gertz. At the time he stated he didn't see the stop sign, went through it, and struck the other vehicle.
According to the criminal complaint, a few days after the incident, the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Department received comments on their Facebook page. One of the comments was from a friend of the passenger in Gertz's car. This person stated that Gertz commented on the stop sign, claiming he said "no cop, no stop."
The police spoke with Gertz's passenger. According to the complaint, she doesn't know exactly what Gertz said but thinks he may have said something similar to no cop, no stop.
Gertz turned himself in to police Monday and is now being charged with one count of homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle. This is a class G felony and is punishable for up to 10 years in prison.
