A local family stepped up and saved the Walworth County Food Pantry just in the knick of time.
Jim and Ardith Drescher have operated the Walworth County Food Pantry for eight years. They decided to find new managers this year so they could spend more time with family. They had until the end of October before someone took it over, or it had to close.
The Drescher family says it serves 500 families a month and costs about $50,000 a year to run.
Luckily, John and Susan Hughes stepped in to take over the pantry.
"We wanted something we could actually touch and feel and be a part of. It's easy for someone to write checks and support a charity and support a cause it's another thing to lift boxes and engage with people," said John Hughes
The pantry currently has 40 volunteers, but they could always use more. Click here for more information about how you can help.
