MILWAUKEE — People have clamored for it, ever since the Milwaukee Mile had a shot back in the early 80's.
Finally, the NASCAR Cup Series is coming to Wisconsin. Some of the biggest names in racing will drive at Road America on the Fourth of July, in 2021.
TMJ4 Main Sports Anchor Lance Allan says how many times were you asked about Cup, and how sick of the question were you?
"Every day. Every interview I did for at least the last 2 years, since I've been doing the interviews. So I was getting pretty sick of it, but I can be honest. You know, probably the last 6 months? I had to bite my tongue quite a bit because you know, I knew we were very close," Road America President and GM Mike Kertscher says.
Drivers love this gem. And with Road America's flexibility, and NASCAR wanting more road courses? It's a perfect fit.
"We've been preaching the excitement of road racing for years, and what it brings and really the experience and the access that fans have. And you know, I think you know finally others have seen that," Kertscher says.
And while this is the first Cup race in the Badger state, Road America did host NASCAR's top series one other time, when the then Grand National series race was run in the rain and won by Tim Flock back in 1956.
"We're honored to see that top tier of motorsports return to Wisconsin," Kertscher says.
TMJ4 Main Sports Anchor Lance Allan says who's your favorite for next year's race?
"Its probably gotta be a Chevrolet. You know, Chevrolet's won 7 out of 10 races. So, I'll be pulling for a Chevrolet. I can assure you," Kertscher says.

"I'm not playing favorites. I'm the promoter here guy!" Kertscher says with a laugh.
