Milwaukee Public School District is bringing enrollment directly to your front door. The Enrollment Bus Campaign's kicked off Wednesday morning with principals, teachers, school leaders and more canvassing neighborhoods to talk to families about MPS enrollment.
For the next six weeks canvassers are aiming to speak with every family in Milwaukee about MPS. Allen-Field Elementary's Principal Fritz Blandón says this effort is taxing but worth it for the betterment of the district.
"It's good that I get to go home with some bruised knuckles because then it means I know I was doing some work out here," said Blandón.
Not everyone was home during the door knocks. However, volunteers left fliers in English and Spanish on every door or mailbox. For those that were available to talk, many seemed supportive of the campaign or considered enrollment.
One resident says she remembers when schools would canvass the neighborhood many years ago. She likes that MPS is doing it once more. The Enrollment Bus Campaign will run from June into July.
