MILWAUKEE – Another change is coming to Milwaukee’s east side bar scene.

Longtime North Avenue bar “The Eastsider” will close on December 16 after 18 years of business.

The Milwaukee Business Journal reportsrecent University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee graduate and former Milwaukee Wave player Taylor Layton is taking over the 600-square-foot college spot and will reopen it as "Baccanera."

Layton tells theMilwaukee Business Journal the new bar will feature an international repertoire of wine — which will be curated by a sommelier — as well as beer and liquor.

He says the goal is to attract a wider and more diverse client demographic. The music will be dialed down, the beverage selection will be enhanced, more tables for sitting will be added and, overall, the college bar atmosphere will be considerably scaled back.

Additionally, Layton says Baccanera will be a place where fans can watch soccer and other international sports that don't typically get air-time on the screens at local bars

The new bar plans to open in early February.
