The Milwaukee VA Medical Center is teaming up with the War Memorial Center to offer a free class in suicide prevention.

The classes are open to everyone and are one hour long. The class begins Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 3 p.m.

“By talking with someone, you can really do something to help prevent suicide,” said Dr. Bert Berger, manager of the Mental Health Division at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center. “When someone is going through a crisis, sometimes it just takes two or three minutes to stop them from (dying by suicide).”

The class is based on the SAVE model:

  • Signs of suicide
  • Asking about suicide
  • Validating feelings
  • Encouraging help and Expediting treatment

You can register for the class here. For more information, visit the War Memorial Center’s Facebook page.
