Milwaukee teen charged in Uber crash that killed 22-year-old woman

MILWAUKEE — A Milwaukee teenager who told police he did not have a valid driver’s license was charged with crashing into a car and killing an Uber passenger.

Jesus Cardenas-Torres, 16, was charged with causing death and great bodily harm by driving a vehicle without a valid license.

Uber passenger Cristina Marlyn Hernandez, 22, of Milwaukee, was killed. The Uber driver sustained broken ribs and cuts. Another passenger was thrown from the vehicle and suffered multiple injuries.

According to the criminal complaint, Cardenas-Torres drove an SUV through West Orchard and 20th streets about 1:30 a.m. Friday, disregarding a stop sign.

Officers witnessed the SUV speeding on Greenfield Avenue at 23rd Street. The marked squad car followed the SUV and was at the scene quickly.
