Milwaukee's new streetcar 'The Hop' got stuck Wednesday morning on the St. Paul Avenue Bridge near the Milwaukee Public Market.

The sudden halt in the route created traffic backups near the area. Two passengers were aboard and had to wait close to an hour.

The delay took about 30 minutes to clear up. Service has since been restored and is expected to run as normal for the rest of the day.

City engineer and streetcar operator Jeff Polenske says the issue was caused when power in one of the vehicles went out, which required it to be towed.

This was the first significant incident since 'The Hop' opened earlier this month according to Polenske.

Two of the streetcars major stops are the Milwaukee Public Market and the Milwaukee Intermodal Station.

'The Hop' runs Monday through Friday 5 a.m. to midnight and weekends 7 a.m. to midnight.
