MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Public Market and parts of the surrounding area were evacuated due to a gas leak Wednesday afternoon, the Milwaukee Fire Department says.
The fire department told TODAY'S TMJ4 they were evacuating "quite a bit" in the area of N. Water St. and E. St. Paul Ave.
As of about 3:45 p.m., the leak was capped, according to We Energies, though the immediate area is expected to remain closed for hours as crews continue their work. The Public Market was re-opened shortly after 4:00 p.m.
There's no word yet on what caused the gas leak.
