MILWAUKEE -- Police say they have arrested a 19-year-old suspect after a fatal hit-and-run crash Thursday morning.
Traffic was diverted around the busy intersection at 76th and Appleton after the crash. The intersection re-opened shortly after 11:00 a.m.
According to Milwaukee Police, a male suspect driving a Pontiac Sunfire southbound on 76th Street ran a red light and smashed into a vehicle traveling westbound through the intersection on Appleton Avenue.
MPD said the driver left the car and ran off.
A 48-year old female passenger in the vehicle hit was pronounced dead at the scene.
The male driver of that vehicle was hurt. Police said the injuries are not expected to be life threatening.
