Milwaukee police officers tried to brighten the day of a young victim of gun violence last week, by delivering her a giant teddy bear in the back of the MPD ice cream truck.
On Friday, officers brought the bear to 8-year-old Destiny, who was shot last Monday when a group of teenagers escalated from fighting to shooting. One of the bullets hit Destiny, who was playing in her front yard.
According to a Facebook post, officers also passed out ice cream to residents, while also handing out trauma informed care resources with members of the MPD’s faith-based partnership.
Destiny was one of five people shot in a particularly violent night earlier this month.
