MILWAUKEE-- The Milwaukee Police Department is working to determine the circumstances behind an officer involved shooting that took the life of a 49-year-old man Saturday.

Authorities were called to the 300 block of W. Reservoir about 11 p.m. for reports of a subject with a gun, authorities said. When the officers arrived on scene, they found a man armed with a gun, according to police.

LIVE UPDATE:

"As they confronted that individual, officers discharged their firearms at the suspect fatally wounding him," said Assistant Chief Michael Brunson.

Investigators confirmed that a 49-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene during a press conference early Sunday. The Waukesha Police Department will be leading the investigation into the officer's use of force, police said.

The two involved officers have been placed on administrative duty while the investigation takes place.
