Milwaukee Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred in a church parking lot.

It happened Tuesday, around 4:30 p.m. at Covenant Lutheran Church, located at 8121 W. Hope Avenue in Milwaukee.

Employees at the church say a man armed with a gun cornered the mom seconds after she picked up her 7-week-old baby. Police say the suspect showed a handgun and demanded the woman's purse.
The incident is enough to worry Covenant Luthern Church employees like Joely Douwette.

"Yea, the baby was in the car," said Douwette. "I don't like walking out to the parking lot by myself now. I don't like getting in my car. I'm worried someone's going to hop out of another car."

Parents dropping off their kids Thursday morning were shocked to hear a mom was robbed by a gunman in the church parking lot.
The church is located right next to a private school, and right across the street from a neighborhood filled with children.

"It wasn't even dark out. It was the middle of the afternoon," said Douwette.  "Parents are picking up kids. Other kids are outside in the neighborhood."

The investigation is ongoing, and Milwaukee Police are still searching for suspects. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact police.
