MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Police Department has released the name of a woman who was killed in an apparent domestic violence homicide Tuesday afternoon.

Police also released the age of the suspect, who was shot by police officers after police say he fired at them.

The 48-year-old woman killed in the 2700 block of W. North Ave. has been identified as Cathy King. King and the suspect, a 51-year-old man who police haven't yet identified, were in a domestic relationship, officers say.

Police say they were called to the Walgreens at 27th and North just after 2 p.m. Tuesday for a 911 caller who said a woman was shot by a man. When they arrived, the suspect fired at police. Officers returned two shots at the suspect, according to a news release.

The suspect was taken to a hospital and has since been released. Charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office in the coming days, police say.

"Chief Alfonso Morales continues to send his thoughts and prayers to the victim’s family and friends," the news release says.
