MILWAUKEE -- Kids and families gathered at Milwaukee Police District 7 Saturday for some Halloween fun.

They weren't the only ones dressed-up for the annual "Kids and Cops in Costume" party hosted by the officers of District 7.

There was food, candy, games, and a haunted house. There were also free services and help available from a variety of local organizations and businesses.

For the officers, this party is about more than just having fun with the people they serve. It's about making sure kids get to know and trust police as real people.

"A compassionate police officer can make a big difference," says Officer Dan Pierce. "We love this community, and want to help people."

"Seeing kids with smiles on their faces is the best," adds District 7 Capt. Boris Turcinovic. "It's a way for us to interact with the community in an informal setting. So many times, when it's more of an official setting, it's hard for people to really open up to us."
