Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn publicly responded to the Fire and Police Commission’s demands to change the city’s pursuit policy for the first time Thursday.
The commission wants officers to chase drivers for reckless driving, speeding and drug trafficking, according to the directive. Flynn could be fired if he doesn’t comply.
Flynn says the commission is asking the MPD to go in a “dangerous direction.”
“The directive, and I’m saying this as objectively as I can, would create the least restrictive pursuit policy in the United States,” the chief said. “Whatever their sincerity of purpose is, it is a dangerous direction you are asking us to go.”
Flynn said he will submit something by next week’s deadline.
