Milwaukee park offers new learning trail for families

Posted

A Milwaukee park has a new, free offering to help kids learn and interact with others.

What's known as the "Born Learning Trail" already exists in 11 parks in Waukesha County. But now, there's one in the city of Milwaukee at Enderis Park at 72nd and Chambers.

It leads families along a path marked with simple, interactive games and activities specifically designed to help young children learn, speak, move, and develop social skills.

"They have drawings on the ground where you can help them recognize numbers, letters and shapes," said Joyce Wilson, who brought her son to the learning trail. "You can work with them and play with them. It makes it fun, and is a bonding experience too."

That parent-child interaction is critical.

"Activities like this are crucial for learning, growth, and readiness for school," said Lynn Greb, the Director of Recreation for Milwaukee Public Schools.

MPS partnered with the United Way and Deloitte, whose employees volunteered their time to build the trail.

"It's very satisfying to see the fruits of your labor being utilized by families," says Scott Wrobbel, Managing Partner at Deloitte.
