Milwaukee offers free furniture, mattress pickup

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee's annual Project Clean & Green program began Monday.

Department of Public Works crews will be picking up unwanted household items for free through May 27. Normally, residents are charged $50 to $150. Find out when the crews are coming to your neighborhood.

Items accepted:

  • Furniture
  • Mattresses
  • Up to two cubic yards of tree trimmings
  • Up to five tires

Item not accepted:

  • Appliances
  • TVs and other electronics, such as computers, printers, scanners, tablets
  • Construction debris
  • Paint and paint thinner
  • Motor oil
  • Hazardous waste
  • Grass
  • Yard waste
  • More than two cubic yards of tree trimmings
The crews will also be doing street and alley sweeping, nuisance inspections and graffiti removal to aid in beautifying each neighborhood.
