Milwaukee man, Edward Burgess, 28, was sentenced to 14 ½ years in federal prison for arson and armed robbery.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) said according to court records, Burgess set fire to a rental property unit he lived in along with his girlfriend and the mother of his children on Dec. 7, 2018.

DOJ reports no one was home at the time of the fire.

Four months later, Burgess brandished a firearm during a robbery of a Metro PCS store in Milwaukee.

“Burgess’s violent disregard for others means he will spend over a decade in federal prison. This case underscores the Justice Department’s commitment to combat the extreme levels of violent crime that plague Milwaukee,” said U.S. Attorney Matthew Krueger.
