The city is getting in the Christmas spirit. The 20th annual Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival kicks off  Nov. 15.

More than 500,000 twinkling lights and dozens of animated displays will be spreading holiday cheer in three Milwaukee parks.

"Community Spirit" will be at Cathedral Square Park, "Candy Cane Grove" will be at Pere Marquette Park and "Santa's Lighted Lounge" will be at Zeidler Union Square.

The festival begins Nov. 15 at 6:30 p.m. with live music, dance acts, visits from Santa, fireworks and more. It runs through Jan. 1.

Families are invited to hop on the 'Jingle Bus' for a 40-minute tour of all the light displays. Tours are presented by Meijer and Coach USA. They will depart from Plankinton Clover Apartments from 6 p.m. to 8:20 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays until Dec. 30. Rides are $2 per person and parking is available in an attached structure for $3.

The 'Jingle Bus' will not run on Thanksgiving.

Other activities during the festival include Santa's Mailbox and Cocoa with the Clauses. Both events take place Dec. 8 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. in Cathedral Square Park. Children who send letters to Santa will receive personalized replies in the mail.
