MILWAUKEE, WI - Candy meets the classroom in one local Milwaukee school. It’s a pairing put together by Milwaukee County first responders including Milwaukee Police, the Milwaukee Fire Department, and the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office.

“This is just a great way for us to be in front of the children and let them see us in a different light,” Lt. Michael Ball said.

Ball said more often than not, these students are exposed to first responders in the midst of tragedy —so, they’re using a little Halloween happiness with candy donated by The Hersey Company to change that narrative at Messmer Saint Rose School.

“We’re just so grateful to have them come and interact with the kids in a positive way. In this day and age, we really want to send the message to the kids that the police and the firefighters are a friend to them,” Morgan Klaus, ELL Specialist said.

For the second year now, Ball and his crew are spreading that message far and wide—from the classroom to the dance floor and everywhere in between.
