The Milwaukee County Zoo lost its western Iowland gorillas on Monday.
"Femelle" passed away on December 12 at the estimated age of 54.
The Milwaukee County Zoo became her home in 1985. She previously lived at the National Zoo in Washington D.C.
During her time in Milwaukee, she gave birth to four offspring. Her keepers say Femelle demonstrated great maternal care and patience with other young gorillas.
The Milwaukee County Zoo says Femelle will be missed by her keepers and visitors.
