Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office hiring correctional officers, starting wage over $18/hr

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department is hiring, and they are asking community members to apply.

According to the release, the department is hiring for the position of Correctional Officer. They are asking residents of all neighborhoods to apply.

Applicants can expect to work holidays, weekends and overtime. Applicants must also complete the department's training program and a probation period.

According to the website, the ideal candidate has these qualifications:

  • Be 21 or older.
  • Graduation from high school, high school equivalency diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver's license at time of application and maintained during incumbency.
  • Good moral character determined from results of fingerprinting and background investigation. Felons, unless pardoned, will be rejected.
  • College level course work in law enforcement, criminal justice, psychology, sociology, education or social work preferred.

According to the website, the total compensation ranges between $38,542 and $44,273 per year.
