MILWAUKEE — A cooling center is opening Tuesday afternoon in preparation of intense heat coming to the area over the next few days, the Milwaukee Health Department said on Monday.

The cooling center is expected to open at 1 p.m. on Tuesday and be open through Friday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at North Division High School located at 1011 W. Center St.

Temperatures are expected to climb into the low to middle-90s with heat indexes reaching 100 degrees on Wednesday.

The cooling center will have water, air conditioning and meal service for those in need of a place to cool off.

The health department said those utilizing the center should enter through the MKE REC entrance next to the tennis courts and expect to social distance from others.
