Dec. 1 marks anniversary of Parks' defiance

The Milwaukee County Transit system will honor civil rights icon Rosa Parks on Friday.

Every bus in the MCTS fleet will have a seat reserved in honor of Parks, along with a sign and the quote, “My only concern was to get home after a hard day’s work.”

Headlights on all buses will also be kept on all day while driving.

Parks refused to give up her "colored seat" to a white passenger on a Montgomery, Ala., bus on Dec. 1, 1955.

Her act of defiance led to a bus boycott in the city and a subsequent court case paved the way for a landmark Supreme Court ruling outlawing segregation on public transportation.
